it's already been six months since Misao's Memorial in Izumi. At a recent study visit to SaoriNoMori I was pleased to see the beautiful tribute to Saori's visionary founder, lovingly placed in the middle of the studio, right on the weaving floor and with a rotating scheme of hundreds of worldwide weavers' handwoven tribute cloth, including some pieces by Freeweaver students. In total, 17 such panels were constructed during the memorial ceremony. 
Freeweaver Studio was pleased to be invited to the special pre-opening curator's talk and exhibition visit of Anni Albers at Tate Modern.

During my 2017 textile residency in India I spent time with the tasar (wild) silk spinners of Fakirpur, Odisha. I have been weavong with their produce eversince! and will shortly be offering hanks of natural hand spun silk for sale in the UK. 
 
 
July 
This last week of July, I attended the annual Hacking The Loom workshop in Sweden, organised by Estonians Kadi Pajupuu and Marilyn Piirsalu. Together with 7 other international weavers we spent the week at beautiful Saterglantan Institutet for Slojd Och Hantverk, about 3 hours north of Stockholm. 
Each year I try to be up north for Summer Solstice, at the International Viking Festival in Iceland to be precise. This year was no different:

5 june 2018, World Environment Day, focus on India and sustainable industries. 
The Khadi Initiavive and Freeweaver SAORI studio have teamed up together to organise an event on World Environment Day in London:

An interactive event on Organic Handwoven fabrics of India organised by Khadi Initiative and with key presentations by Kapil Shah (of Jatan Trust) and Medha Shah (of Weaver Bird). The presentation will cover issues related to the cultivation of organic cotton and the development of a cluster-based transparent supply chain – from cotton to clothes – all happening within a radius of about 50 miles. 
HENRI LONDON and Project Pico will make presentations based on their visits to explore supply chains for organic cotton in India. Presentations will be followed by group discussions and a question and answer session. 
 
There will be spinning demonstration by Jatan Trust, Weaving demonstration by Freeweaver Saori Studio, London and Stitching demonstration by HENRI LONDON and REN LONDON. Last month I had the privilege of traveling to Osaka to attend the memorial ceremony for the founder of SAORI weaving, Misao Jo.
